Ulster Teams play in Leinster Chess Union Junior Team Challenge.

Two Ulster teams travelled to Dublin to play in the LCU Junior team challenge. A tournament that included a visiting team from Manchester, a girls Leinster team and the Stokes Cup Team winners.

Thanks to the Leinster Chess Union and Maura Osbourne who organised a team challenge on April 14th.

We travelled down with two teams from Ulster:

Ulster 1 Team-Knights                                      Ulster  2 Team-Bishops

Eoin McCorkindale Form 4                            Hannah Patterson F2
Andrew Todd Form 5                                      Samuel Todd    F2
John Dawson Form 5                                     Pete Todd      P7
Jake Patterson Form 4                                   Phoebe Patterson  P4
Joel Dawson Form 3                                      Calvin Patterson  P2

The order of play was 5 rounds followed by awards and speech from the LCU president Charlie Talbot - thanking all the teams, the Manchester Organiser John McKenna and the tournament organiser Maura Osbourne. He stressed the importance and enjoyment of playing the game win or lose.

Also present were the young players Admira Kecskemeti (playing for the Leinster Ladies) and brother Arnold Kecskemeti who both did very well in the problem solving.

All our players had a fun day with plenty of chess and chatting. Both teams had fun over the board and also deciding their team order and strategy (the order was flexible for all teams). The stronger players occasionally playing on the lower boards to gain points. There was also a puzzle competition with certificates. An enjoyable day.
