Studying the rules of chess and being an Arbiter
A three day Arbiters course was run over friday/sat/sun 14th/15th/16th August at Ballynafiegh Community Centre. Ending with a challenging 2 hour exam.

UCU runs its 6th Chess Summer School
Over three days in August young players got the opportunity to improve their chess, solve problems and practice endgames, learn chess notation and the basics of the openings. All in the beautiful surrounds of Ormeau Park. Thanks to the Council for the use of Ravenhill Bowling Green.

Belfast Culture night on Friday Sept 18th. A cafe, live entertainment, a table, a chess set, a cup of coffee and brilliant conversation. Nothing beats it!
The Summer Tournament comes to an end...
With 21 rounds and some 42 players the Summer tournament has lots of chess. With the award ceremony and active tournament on weds 30th September the series comes to an end.

(B&D League 2015/16 Week 1) The 2015/16 league season is up and running, and Bangor Groomsport are the early leaders as they upset champions Ballynafeigh 1.

QUB tame the Lions
(B&D League 2015/16 Week 2) The CS Lewis Lions fell to a shock defeat against QUB 1 this week, while defending champions Ballynafeigh 1 join them on 0-2 as they are beaten by The A Team.
QUB keep pace with leaders
(B&D League 2015/16 Week 3) Originally tipped to be the Division 1 whipping boys, QUB 1 are justifying their place in the division with some fine performances, including this week's draw against leaders Muldoons 1 which keeps them just half a point behind.
The Belfast London Junior Chess Championship Qualifier
The Chess calendar for students started with the opportunity to qualify to the prestigious LJCC. With a day event and the first of the year we are never quite sure of the number of players who will attend. But fortunately we had new faces and some excellent chess.
Muldoons pull away
(B&D League 2015/16 Week 4) Muldoons 1 are the sole Division 1 leaders after beating The A Team, while rivals QUB 1 fell to defeat against Ballynafeigh 1.
Ulster Masters 2015
The 2015 Ulster Masters was held on the weekend of the 17th and 18th of October.
One down, two to go
(B&D League Week 5) With one-third of the season gone, every match-up (except for one postponement) has taken place and the league tables have well and truly taken shape.
Alan Burns Grand Prix
The Alan Burns Grand Prix series kicks-off on 13th December. Now in its third year, the Lackadaisical Rapidplays offer the chance for an excellent Sunday lunch followed by an afternoon of entertaining chess.
