Albert Long Collection
Albert Long was Secretary of the Ulster Chess Union from circa 1950 to 1970. He kept extensive formal records of his work and the results of UCU competitions during that period. His working notebooks, which contain an even greater amount of detail, have also been given to the UCU. These archives form the core of this collection. Added to them are records kept by his successors and other officials up to the end of the millennium, plus records of the Belfast and Strandtown clubs dating back into the 19th Century. It is intended that a significant amount of this historical material will be transcribed into this section of the UCU website.
Secretary's Reports 1950-1971
Albert Long was appointed the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer of the Ulster Chess Union at its Annual General Meeting on 16th December 1949. He continued in those roles until the AGM held (and exceptionally chaired by him) on the 14th October 1971. One of his responsibilities as Secretary was to prepare an Annual Report for the Annual General Meeting of the UCU. His reports provided an overview of each previous season.
