2005 Master Classes
During the summer of 2005, a second series of Master Classes were presented by local top players.
Ulster Open 2005
The Ulster Open was played over the weekend of 15-16 October at the Belfast Boat Club.

QUB Open Rapidplay 2006
The QUB Open returned to the Ulster chess circuit on Saturday the 25th of March 2006 with a new format and venue. Report by Chris Millar.
2005-2006 League Season
The 2006 winners in the three Divisions of the UCU Belfast and District Leagues are Clifton House, Malone and Armagh.
Ulster Championship 2006
This year's Ulster Championship battle was on the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. Saturday morning in Belfast Boatclub and the brave sixteen sat down to do battle for the title of Ulster Champion. Three days later - with a few upsets along the way - it was decided. Damien Lavery reports on the 2006 Ulster Senior Championship.
Tournament
A total of 40 young chess players from the ages of 7 to 14 competed. The competition is jointly organised by the Ulster Schools Chess Council and the Ulster Chess Union and the next event in the series is also at Belfast Inst. on the 18th February 2006.

Ulster Schools Individual Chess Championship 2005
The 2005 Ulster Schools Individual Championship took place at RBAI on Saturday, November 19th 2005. Once again a very exciting tournament and thanks must go to Mr Chris Maitland (RBAI), Dr Graham Murphy (MCB), Mr Damian Walls (St Columbs), Mr David McAlister (UCU) and Dr Gopalan Srinivasan (UCU) for their roles in organising this event.
2005 Irish Schools Interprovincials
Ulster Schools hosted the All Ireland Under 19 and Under 16 Interprovincial Tournament on the weekend of 4/5 March 2005. The team competition was held at Methodist College, Belfast with visiting teams from Leinster and Munster.
Ulster Rapidplay Championship
With the Ulster Senior Championship no longer played over the Christmas vacation period, the UCU Committee considered there was still a market for a tournament at that time of year.

Tom Clarke wins Williamson Shield with 100% score
Tom Clarke scored a maximum 6 out of 6 to win the Williamson for the eighth time. Runner-up was Stephen Scannell, winner of the Shield on the previous 4 occasions (one of those tied with Clarke)
Fisherwick Tournaments
This season Fisherwick Chess Club organised two Swiss tournaments, the first before Christmas and the second after it.
