Ulster Schools Individual Chess Championship 2005

The 2005 Ulster Schools Individual Championship took place at RBAI on Saturday, November 19th 2005. Once again a very exciting tournament and thanks must go to Mr Chris Maitland (RBAI), Dr Graham Murphy (MCB), Mr Damian Walls (St Columbs), Mr David McAlister (UCU) and Dr Gopalan Srinivasan (UCU) for their roles in organising this event.

Under 19 Section

This Section consisted of ten players from five schools, including the captains of RBAI and MCB's first teams. The section lived up to the reputation gained in previous years by producing some very close games, ensuring none of the players ended up winless after five rounds.

David Grzymek, of Sullivan Upper school and first seed, lived up to his bill as pre tournament favourite by claiming the under 19 cup convincingly with five wins from his five games. David's Sullivan team mate Robin Brown also put in an impressive showing by winning four of his five games and coming a clear second place. Four players finished level on 2.5 points in third place but the prize was won for the second year in a row by RBAI's captain Ryan Murray.
