Belfast South 2014
At the end of the Autumn section of the Tournament, Robert Lavery seemed to be well in control leading the pack though there were plenty of challengers chasing his heels. Now, 4 weeks into the New Year, Robert has tumbled down the leader-board failing to win game.
Meanwhile at least 6 challengers are placing above Robert with the standings led jointly by Philip Morrison and Bruce McLean who are continuing to get good results in 2014. The tournament is really hotting up but there is still plenty of time for the leader board to change. Philip is virtually assured of the lower section prize at least but the upper section is still wide open which should encourage a lively competition over the remaining weeks.
The final night of the tournament will now take place on 24 March because of the clash with St Patrick's Day.
Competition rules state that to be considered for a prize, a player must have completed at least 10 games in total during Autumn and Winter sections of the tournament; six players have reached that target already including both current leaders. Evidently it is tough to stay at the top and with another 7 weeks to go anything could happen...
