BSCC - Best Game Autumn 2013

The Belfast South Best Game prize for Autumn 2013 has been awarded to Martin Kelly & Robert Lavery for their match-up from Round 2. Move 12 and Robert, as Black, sacrifices his Rook with Rxc3

Neil Green comments:

"A worthy prize winner!  An excellent illustration of Black's Rxc3 sacrifice in the Sicilian opening which in this case leads to the elimination of Whites e-pawn and the subsequent march of Black's centre pawns towards promotion.

White's 15. f5 allowed Black to make the piece exchange Bb3 which  together with Nc3 gave him a passed d-pawn as well. The rest of the game was played accurately and efficiently by Black. Further simplification by White only assisted his own demise."

Play through the game

There will be a further Best Game prize awarded for the second half of the tournament.
