4th Belfast South Open Chess Tournament 2015-16

This year's tournament which has now finished attracted a total of 28 entries from a number of Clubs and was played over 20 weeks from November to April. It was particularly encouraging that more than half the entrants played over and above the minimum number of 10 games required to qualify for prizes. As players ratings ranged from 900 to 1737, 2 grading bands were created at "under 1400 " and " over 1400" and players were paired within their band with a grading prize for each section in addition to prizes for the overall best percentage score and runner-up in the tournament . There was also 2 Best Game prizes which were published by the UCU. Prize winners were : Overall winner: Brendan Jamison ( Ballynafeigh ) with 77% Runner- Up : Ian Woodfield ( Queen's University) and Martin Kelly ( Belfast South) with 67% Grading prize : Paddy Magee ( Mallusk) Best Game Prizes : Brendan Jamison and Paddy Magee

At Belfast Cafe Nero Chess players took part in unique international event: Chris Ross Simultaneous

Chris Ross a top Chess player who is blind played a simultaneous chess event. Playing in Collingwood College, Durham University Chris played players from nations including Italy, India, Iran . Ulster was invited to participate and a group of youngsters and club players met in the Cafe Nero to play and enjoy this unique event. The event took part on 29th February 2016.
