Boys Brigade Christmas Chess Tournament

Malcolm Adamson organised the Christmas Chess Tournament for the Boys Brigade.

Between Christmas and New Year. On Friday 30th December members of the Boys Brigade were invited to the Knocknamuckley Church Of Ireland Hall. Where Malcolm Adamson and Mark Newman setup the boards and computer. Malcolm the organiser had prizes including chess clocks and sets for winners and some excellent books and DVDs. The tournament was split into Under14, Under 19 and Open groups. With 12 players we held a 6 round swiss with everyone in the one section.

The tournament had some excellent chess battles. Players also solved chess puzzles for a competition to recieve certificates and for the winner a puzzle book.

And would you believe it all the Open competitions on 3 and 4 end up on 4 points - 5 players on 4 points.

Luckily we had some time to play some further games...

Calum Guiney won the Under14 section with a brilliant score of 1.5.

Malcolm decided we would have a play-off for first places. With 5 players on 4 points a fun proposition....

We decide to have a play-off between the lower two Thomas Adamson and James White followed by a Knockout to decide the winner.

Under 18

Matthew Russell 0-1 Mathew McConaghy
Matthew McConaghy winning the Under 18 and in second place Matthew Russell and Joshua Wickham in 3rd place.
