Ballynafeigh 1 extend lead with Muldoons win

(B&D League 2016/17 Week 8) Ballynafeigh 1's good run of form continues as they brush aside Muldoons 1 to stretch their lead to 13 points.

Division 1

  • Muldoons 1 1.5-3.5 Ballynafeigh 1
  • Ballynafeigh 2 1.5-3.5 The A Team

Ballynafeigh 1's lead just keeps on growing as they beat Muldoons 1 3.5-1.5. David Houston, Calum Leitch and Damien Cunningham all won for the visitors. In the week's other match, The A Team - fielding their strongest side yet -  finally won a match as they beat Ballynafeigh 2 by the same score.

Division 2

  • Fruithill 3.5-1.5 Bangor Webbs
  • Ballynafeigh 4 2-3 QUB 2
  • Civil Service 2-3 Ballynafeigh 3
  • Kelly's Heroes 2.5-2.5 Muldoons 2

Despite fielding the lowest-rated team, on average, in Division 2 this week, Ballynafeigh 3 remain at the front of the race for the John Strawbridge Cup as the beat Civil Service 3-2. Daniil Zelenchuk (1170) again pulled off the upset of the week as he saw off David Jackson (1402), while Dmitry Zelenchuk and Brendan Jamison also claimed victory. QUB 2 remain 4.5 points behind after beating Ballynafeigh 4 by the same score. The Bangor Webbs remain in last place after a narrow defeat to Fruithill, while there was controversy in the remaining match, a draw between Kelly's Heroes and Muldoons 2, over a draw claim in the board 1 encounter between David Ruben and Steven Eachus. Ruben, with just seconds on the clock, claimed a draw by insufficient material, but the League Controller ruled in favour of Eachus as a help-mate was still theoretically possible.
