Kelly's Heroes dent QUB 2's Strawbridge Cup hopes

(B&D League 2016/17 Week 12) QUB 2 lost valuable ground on Ballynafeigh 3 in Division 2 as they were beaten by Kelly's Heroes while the leaders brushed aside Muldoons 2.

Division 1

  • Ballynafeigh 2 1-4 Ballynafeigh 1

With the scheduled match between Muldoons 1 and QUB 1 postponed, Ballynafeigh 1 extended their lead with a 4-1 win over Ballynafeigh 2. David Houston and Steve Scannell delivered results on the top two boards, while board 5 saw one of the upsets of the season as James Barbour (1074), standing in for Damien Lavery, toppled Chris Kelly (1552).

There was more good news for the leaders the following night as nearest rivals QUB 2 were beaten by a strong Kelly's Heroes side, despite the best efforts of Alan York (1247), who beat Craig Stevenson (1343), and Samuel Ngieng and Bernard McCaughey who drew with higher-rated opposition. Bangor Webbs are off the bottom of the table as they beat Ballynafeigh 4, while Civil Service and Fruithill went to a draw.
