Muldoons 1 snapping at leaders' heels after dominant win

(B&D League 2016/17 Week 10) Muldoons 1 moved to within two points of leaders Ballynafeigh 1 after swatting aside the Ormeau Road side's second team.

Division 1

  • Ballynafeigh 2 0.5-4.5 Muldoons 1
  • The A Team 2-3 QUB 1

Muldoons 1 are just two points off the Division 1 lead after crushing Ballynafeigh 2. Chris Kelly did well to draw with Danny Mallaghan, but the home side were never likely to put up much resistance against a team that outrated them by over 300 points per board. Elsewhere, QUB 1 stayed in title contention with a 3-2 win over The A Team, but will probably be disappointed not to have won by a larger margin against the bottom-placed team.

Division 2

  • Muldoons 2 2.5-2.5 Ballynafeigh 4
  • QUB 2 2-3 Civil Service
  • Bangor Webbs 2.5-2.5 Kelly's Heroes

The match between Fruithill and leaders Ballynafeigh 3 was postponed, giving second-placed QUB 2 a chance to apply some pressure as they took on seventh-placed Civil Service. The Stormont side had other ideas, fielding Mark Newman, Peter May and Paul McGuigan on the top three boards with a view to overpowering their QUB 2 counterparts. While they had underperformed somewhat so far this season, they were in ruthless mood on this occasion, rendering the home team's victories on boards 4 and 5 irrelevant. Muldoons recorded their sixth draw in ten matches against Ballynafeigh 4, while the Bangor Webbs also drew against Kelly's Heroes.
