Report - Omagh rapidplay 2016

Another excellent turnout at the Omagh rapidplay on its 3rd year running.

The 2016 Omagh rapidplay was held again in the towns Christain Brothers Grammar School for a third consecutive year.  Maintaining its popularity, almost 40 competitors battled it out over 6 rounds with 25 minutes on their clocks.

The junior section was won with an impressive 100% score by Daniil Zelenchuk (6/6).  Equally as delighted as Daniil were members of the senior section who did not have to play against the promising junior who is getting used to success. This years runner up was John Harding (4.5/6) who lost only to Daniil.  There were two grading prizes.  The under 1200 prize went to Dmitry Zelenchuk (4/6) and the under 1000/ungraded prize was won by Michael Donaghy, also with a fine score of 4/6.

In the senior section, Sergio Esteve Sanchez (5.5/6) came out on top.  The event added to his victory in the 2016 Belfast “summer” tournament and his runner up place at the recent QUB blitz.  The only player that Sergio was not able to defeat was the 2014 winner Brendan Jamison (4/6) who finished runner up.  Finally, following a quiet spell from tournaments, Steven Eachus (4/6) narrowly missed out on the runner up spot on the tiebreak.  However the bottom seed from Muldoons was rewarded for his efforts by securing the under 1550 grading prize.

Congratulations to all our prize winners this year.  Thanks to everyone who participated and helped with another great event!
