EVENT: Belfast Blitz Championships and Bullet Championships

DATE: Saturday 4 March 2017

START TIME: 10:00am - 10:15am for registration. Round 1 at 10:30am.

END TIME: 5:15pm. Prize-giving at 5pm.

REGISTRATION: Please email Brendan Jamison at his work email: jamisonsculpturestudio@gmail.com by noon on Thursday 2 March 2017.

ENTRY FEE: £10 per player (this includes entry to both tournaments), £5 entry fee for non-UCU rated child players

SPECTATORS: £5 each. (Must register in advance for keycode access to the building)

AIM: To help raise funds to bring 3 children to Russia to compete in a 10 player chess match of Saint Petersburg v Belfast (18-25 August 2017).

ARBITERS: Brendan Jamison and Mark Newman

12 PRIZES:

Small engraved trophies will be awarded for 1st place in the Blitz and Bullet tournaments. Silver and bronze medals will be awarded for 2nd and 3rd places in each competition. While both tournaments will run as an open format, medals will also be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd highest scores by junior rated players. This band will be determined on the day, based on the rating strength of all the entries. UCU Blitz ratings will be used for both tournaments. In cases where a player does not have a blitz rating, their standard UCU rating will be used.

FORMAT: For the Blitz and Bullet tournaments, the number of rounds will be determined by the number of entires. We anticipate approximately 16 rounds for the Blitz, 8 in the morning and 8 in the afternoon.

BLITZ TIME CONTROL: 3 minutes + 2 second increments

BULLET TIME CONTROL: 1 minute for all moves

18 PRIZES: Small engraved trophies and medals will be awarded across each of the three bands. UCU Blitz ratings will be used for both tournaments. In cases where a player does not have a blitz rating, their standard UCU rating will be used.

TIMETABLE:

BLITZ - Morning Session 10:30am to 12:30pm
LUNCH BREAK 12:30pm to 1:30pm
BLITZ - Afternoon Session 1:30pm to 3:30pm
AFTERNOON BREAK 3:30pm to 4:00pm
BULLET 4:00pm to 5pm
PRIZE-GIVING 5pm to 5:15pm

TIE BREAKS: For tie-breaks, players will be ranked based on their scores by Median Buchholz, followed if necessary by Buchholz and then Progressive Scores.

RULES: FIDE rules will apply. Touchmove will apply. The first illegal move will result in the immediate loss of the game, however, your opponent must announce that an illegal move has been played and claim the win. If play continues, the opponent may not claim the win retrospectively.

LOCATION: Ground floor conference room, Good Shepherd Centre, 511 Ormeau Rd, Belfast BT7 3GS.

CAR PARKING: Ample free spaces are available in the church car park which players will drive through to get to the building.

KEY CODE: Players must register in advance to get the key code to enter the pedestrian gate after parking their vehicles in the church car park.
