UCU AGM Agenda

The 2012 UCU AGM is being held at St Malachy's Old Boy's Association, Antrim Road, Belfast on Wednesday 13th June, commencing at 7.30pm. Below is the agenda for the meeting, which includes several motions for debate.

Tournament Controller's Report

Motions for debate as submitted in writing:

  • That the UCU (subject to available funds) offer to contribute £100 to Karina Kruk's registration to play for Ireland. (proposer: Mark Newman)
  • UCU recognises Karina Kruk for her excellent achieves in Chess, Including Irish Champion, Ulster Champion (proposer: Mark Newman)
  • That the membership directs the Board to purchase a perpetual trophy to be given annually to the Ulster Rapidplay Champion, and that the trophy be engraved retrospectively to be beginning of that tournament. That there should only be one rapidplay champion, and that tie breakers be used if necessary. (proposer: Michael Waters)
  • That the membership directs the board to spend at least £500 every year on promoting, playing and coaching for junior players. (proposer: Michael Waters)
  • That the membership directs the board that the prize for the winner of the Ulster Chess Championships be not less than £500 to ensure the highest standard of competition for this tournament. (proposer: Michael Waters)
  • That all tournaments run under UCU control with the exception of the Ulster Championships are self funding regards prize monies, that the UCU should only assist in the cost of venue hire with the prize money for said tournament coming from entry fees or exterior sponsorship for that particular tournament.   • In the event that any venue is made available to the UCU free of charge or a minor nominal sum for a prestige event then the Union should enrich the prize fund for that tournament for an estimated saved amount.(proposer: Damien Cunningham)
  • That the body of the hall mandate the incoming executive board to discuss the approval of a financial contribution to assist Karina Kruk achieve registration to an international team. (proposer: Damien Cunningham)
  • That the Ulster Championships receive an annual sum of £150 added to its prize fund from UCU cash reserves. (proposer: Damien Cunningham)
  • That the position of tournament director be abandoned and all duties associated with the post be transferred to the executive board for delegation. (proposer: Damien Cunningham)
