Awards and a fun rapidplay Tournament

The Summer tournament came to an end on Weds 28th Sept. with a fun handicap tournament and prize giving.

Before the award ceremony we had a swiss with a difference. The players were paired swiss style but the time on the clocks was calculated on the difference of their ratings varing from 10mins each to 1 min to 19 mins if the rating difference was significant. Would this mean a more equal tournament - it definately meant a more challenging one.

Five rounds of focused quick fire chess and one illegal move and you loose the game. Lets see what happened.

During the Summer tournament lots of excellent games were played. Some are on the intelligent board site :   as we were lucky to use the UCU intelligent boards. Thanks to Adrian Dornford-Smith for bringing them and setting them up - they add that bit of extra excitement to the evening.

One game where the rarely beaten Gareth Annesley played Mikhail Pavlov the Opera Singing Chess player. Mikhail won and gained the won first place in the top section. Click on the diagram to play through the game.

Gareth-Mikhail

The prize giving to the Summer Tournament players - the youngest player Daniil Zelenchuk won the overall tournament with the highest percentage. He was so far ahead he didnt need to play in the final round.

Derek Truesdale recieved a special certificate for full attendance not missing any of the 20 weds - absolutely brilliant.
