Greenisland FC Chess Summer Scorcher Blitz Tournament
Greenisland FC Chess Club hosted a successful hugely successful blitz tournament on the afternoon of the 18th July 2021. Just like the weather, the chess was scorching with three sections and 32 players competing to take away the trophies.
A brilliant tournament - face to face play at the Ulster Championships 2021
We had a top section enriched by the presence of FM Tom O'Gorman and Alice O'Gorman. With previous Ulster Champions: Steve Scannell, Daniil Zelenchuk and Thomas Donaldson. Top Ulster players Danny Roberts, Gareth Annesley and new to Ulster Mandar Tahmankar we were in for some brilliant chess.
Sad loss of Dr Tom Esmonde
Tom Esmonde was a player who was greatly respected and a man who gave to the World. We were lucky to have him in our chess World.

OUTDOOR CHESS A BIG SUCCESS
Brendan Jamisons thoughts on running outdoor chess. He's done a brilliant job of running some (lots if you include all the tournaments he and Ross ran in previous years) excellent chess events during difficult times. Greenisland Football Club has launched a brand new chess club at Greenisland Football Club. It opens on Friday 11th June and will run on Friday nights from 7-9pm. All ages and abilities are welcome but for under 18s, parents should stay in the clubhouse with their children.
