Winter 2020 Tournament ends with fun event and Closing Ceremony

Monday 29th March saw the last evening of the Winter Tournament with a fun swiss tournament followed by an award ceremony. A brilliant end to 22 weeks of good slow chess.

The evening started with an email to the players registered for the Winter tournament. In the image of the face to face Summer tournament which ends with a fun tournament and closing ceremony.

With 11 replies I decided to include myself into the draw to make the number even. We had a good range of players.

At 7:00pm I did the draw and sent out the pairings - the games began and the tournament was on.

Although thats my definition of fast chess - who blunders last tends to loose. and I must admit to lots of blunders....

Shortly after the completion of the tournament at about 9:45pm we held the Zoom closing ceremony.

Its always good to see the faces of Chess players.

I started by thanking all the players for being part of the Winter Tournament - as its the Chess thats fun and everyone contributes to the happening of this event.

Under 1250 Went to David Corr who came joint 4th with 3 1/2 points

Third Mark Newman on 4 points

Second Alex Goss on 5 points

Champion Danny Roberts also on 5 points winning on tie break.

We then moved to the Winter Tournament. Again it was well attended and as is usual we mention the Players with most attendances.

The meeting thanked Mark Newman for running the event. Also mentioned was Alex Goss for running the team events on Fridays and the Grandprix Blitz's on Sundays both well attended and events that are looked forward to and enjoyed by the players.

The Zoom meeting closed with a reminder that the Summer Tournament (to be advertised on this site) will start in May. and everyone mentioned that they were looking forward to the eventual return of face to face chess.
