Summer 2021 Tournament back to Pavilion.

With week 11 weds 14th July of the Summer 2021 tournament we saw face to face chess back at the Civil Service Pavilion.

The Summer Tournament is back to face to face matches.

We had 4 players at the first of these.

We kept our masks on and set the Clocks for 90 mins each. It was a little noisey to begin with as the soft(!) music of the outside Aerobics class wafted into the hall.

But it was exhilarating to have an opponent to face across the board with a long time on the clock for a slow game. All faces were focused - an occasional laugh and chat and the games were away.

After games completed there were friendlys played and more chat.

Players are welcome to attend - play starts shortly after 6:45pm as the centre closes at about 10:00pm.

The rules for the tournament:

Starting Wednesday 5th May 2021 and continuing every Wednesday.

Ending Wednesday 29th September 2021. Prize Giving and mini tournament. (setup to be determined and announced).

Times : End time to enter the draw Weds 3:00 pm. Draw will be announced at the Pavilion. Games start shortly after 6:45pm. Please be at the Pavilion for 6:45pm.

Format The tournament is flexible – players play whichever nights suit them with pairings being made on the evening. Players are usually paired with opponents within their own grading band.

Time limit Each player gets 1 hour 30 minutes for the complete game.

Prizes This is run free so no prize money - just the fun in playing and a certificate and for the winner the name on the perpetual trophy.There will be grading bands, again depending on entrants.

Rules
1. Players must complete 10 games to be considered to qualify.
2. If a player does not play in two of the last three rounds they will be assumed to have played and lost 2 games. If they play only one then they will forfeit one game.
3. However if a player has played 14 or more games then they are exempt from rule 2.
4. Scores will be calculated on a percentage basis.
