A winter afternoon of chess fun.

The first of the afternoons of the Childrens Chess tournaments took place on November 7th at Methodist College. Some of the best young players in Ulster play head to head. The winner of the secondary tournament PeterTodd from Bangor Grammar is only in form 2 an excellent result.

We were very pleasantly suprised by the number of players. Allowing us to have two excellent swiss tournaments with 6 rounds in each.

With new players adding strengh to the sections the regular players were challenged. But always the best way to improve your chess is to player a stronger player, loose, learn and play again until you win.....

The hum of social chat filled the room - quiet as each round started. Players solving chess puzzles during the space between rounds.

Two schools well attended were St Patricks, Down Patrick brought in by teacher and Chess organiser Gerry Tate and Bangor Grammar School where Andrew Todd has done some excellent work encouraging and organising chess.

Thanks to Methodist College for the brilliant venue. Thanks to the volunteers for making the event possible. Thanks to the players for creating such a brilliant environment and friendly atmosphere for playing chess.

Thanks also to all our regulars - and for a great days chess. I leave you with photos of the day and the full results.....

Peter and Samuel Todd scored excellently solving some very difficult but beautiful problems.

The Primary section has been dominated by Calvin (P4) and Pheobe Patterson (P7) but the new players included twins David and Pablo Gonzalez whom I had played last month at the LJCC and almost got beaten. I should also mention that the range of ages from P2 - Aaditya Singh. Shows that you're never too young to play...
