Ballynafeigh 1 back in title hunt?

(B&D League Week 7) Just when you thought the race for the Silver King couldn't be any more open, Ballynafeigh 1 score a big win over The A Team to get within nine points of the leaders despite still being in fifth place.

Division 1

  • The A Team 1-4 Ballynafeigh 1
  • CS Lewis Lions 3.5-1.5 QUB 1
  • Bangor Groomsport 1.5-3.5 Muldoons 1

Just when it seemed that defending champions Ballynafeigh 1 were sinking without trace, they scored a big win over The A Team. They did it without their usual board 1, David Houston; even so, they restricted their opponents to two draws (for Sam Flanagan against John O'Doherty and William Storey against Chris Kelly). With the CS Lewis Lions and Muldoons 1 each winning 3.5-1.5 (against QUB 1 and Bangor Groomsport respectively) the top five are separated by just nine points.

Division 2

  • Muldoons 2 1.5-3.5 Fruithill
  • NI Civil Service 1-4 Kelly's Heroes
  • Ballynafeigh 2 4-1 CS Lewis Witches

Ballynafeigh 2 remain one point ahead of Kelly's Heroes after both teams won 4-1 against the CS Lewis Witches and NICS respectively - they meet next week. Elsewhere, Fruithill won 3.5-1.5 at Muldoons 2 despite the home side's Rodney Orr (1187) achieving the upset of the week against Sean Linton (1331).

Division 3

  • QUB 2 3.5-1.5 Ballynafeigh 4
  • Ballynafeigh 3 4.5-0.5 Bangor Wannabees
  • Andrew's Army 4.5-0.5 QUB 3

Andrew's Army beat QUB 3 4.5-0.5 to close the gap to QUB 2, who beat Ballynafeigh 4 3.5-1.5, to three points. Ballynafeigh 3 achieved a convincing victory over the Bangor Wannabees in the week's other match.
