TIME CONTROL
1 hour 30 mins on the clock. Rated games. Open tournament. All moves to be recorded until last 5 mins.
COLOURS & PAIRINGS
Everyone will be ranked based on their current UCU rating.
For round 1, the top half of the seedings will play the bottom half.
From round 2 onwards, players will be paired with other competitors on similar points.
Where possible a player's colour will be alternated each week to ensure a similar number of games with White and Black. However, with the open nature of this tournament, some competitors will not play every week and therefore alternating the colours each week can not always be guaranteed.
Ideally, each round will see the player face a new opponent. However, because there are 8 rounds, in some cases a player may be paired with another competitor they have already played in an earlier round, however, in such cases, the colours will be reversed.
PRIZE CERTIFICATES
A total of 6 certificates will be awarded, 2 in each grading band:
Senior Band:
1. First place
2. Second Place
Intermediate Band:
3. Intermediate Winner (Highest score of a player rated between 1000-1499).
4. Intermediate - Second Place (Second highest score for a player rated between 1000-1499).
Junior Band
5. Junior Winner (Highest score of a player rated under 1000).
6. Junior Second Place (Second highest score for a player rated under 1000).
PERCENTAGES
Players can come and go, effectively playing in as many rounds as they like but to be eligible for a prize certificate, a competitor must play in at least 6 rounds, including the last two rounds. The highest scoring percentage wins a certificate. In the event of a tie, a 5 minute blitz game will determine the winner. A coin will be tossed to determine the colour.
MANUAL DRAW EACH NIGHT
The Arbiter will make the draw on the night of each round so competitors must be at the club for 7:45pm. Players wishing to enter the tournament (either at round 1 or beyond) should register their intention to play by email to the arbiter beforehand.
ARBITER
Brendan Jamison
At the start of each round, if there are an odd number of players, the arbiter will play to balance the numbers.
RULES
As per the league, FIDE rules will apply.
