UK Chess Challenge Northern Ireland Megafinals

On Saturday May 16th Young chess players gathered for the Northern Irelands Mega-finals. Who would qualify for the next stage of these prestigious championships?

Players qualifying from Botanic Primary School, Castlewellan Primary School, Comber Primary School, Holywood Steiner School, Ballymena Academy, Home Educated, and from Enniskillen - Tatttygar Primary School, Holy Trinity Primary School, Enniskillen Model Primary School, gathered for the finals.

This tournament is part of a UK wide competition - very well organised, we get several boxes of trophies, certificates and instructions its an honour to be part of such an excellent tournament. For further details go to the Delancy's UK Chess Challenge Website.

This tournament is the last monthly tournament jointly run by the Ulster Chess Union and the Ulster Schools Chess Council. We run a series of tournaments every year. Welcoming youngsters from all over to enjoy fun Chess. These tournaments also provide a place for younsters whos schools dont have chess clubs to meet and play other chess players.

This year we had only 3 players in the seniors section. So we played an all play all White and Black giving plenty of chess. The youngest of the players Harvey Coster had to contend with the two experienced older players Hanna and Jake Patterson. Which he did excellently. All three qualified for the Terra-finals in July.
