Kruk returns from Tromso with WFM title

There was Ulster interest in the recent Chess Olympiad in Tromso as Ballynafeigh's Karina Kruk performed well for the Irish women's team.

Ballynafeigh player Karina Kruk secured the Woman FIDE Master (WFM) title with a 6.5/9 score for the Irish women's team at the 41st Chess Olympiad in Tromso. After a first-round loss to Azeri WIM Ibrahimova she went undefeated for the rest of the tournament, taking the scalp of 2132-rated Aja Topic of Bosnia-Hercegovina along the way. This was despite a disappointing overall performance from the team, who finished six places below their initial seeding of 89 - indeed, Kruk was the only team member to gain rating points.

A full breakdown of the team's results can be seen here, and Kruk's games can be seen here.
