Rookie Speaks Out

After losing 6-1 to Muldoon's last time around, Belfast South's A-Team played above their rankings. Meanwhile, on Wednesday night, Kelly's Heroes stride ahead in division 2 as the pun count rockets.

Div 1: Muldoons vs A-Team

MuldoonsA-Team
N.PILKIEWICZ 1-0 R.DEVENNEY
D.MORELAND 0.5-0.5
S.FLANAGAN
S.WOOD 0.5-0.5 B.MACLEAN
D.MALLAGHAN 0.5-0.5 J.BRYARS
J.WOOD 0-1 B.JAFFA

First, Ray got into a "pickle" against  Pilkiewicz  in the opening and fell for a brilliant Rook sac against his Bishop.

Then, Las Vegas bound Danny "neve-ad- a" chance and saw his luck "desert" him against John, who had an outstanding draw.(Nevada-get it?). So, I'll not be send a "Dear John" letter to John after this game.

The next game saw Bruce "spruce" up his technique to draw with Stephen, who was in massive time trouble.

On bottom board, John couldn't see the "woods" for the trees, as Bernie "The Bolt" landed his "golden shot" to win the game.

At 2-2, the final result rested on Board 2, with both players in time trouble,  where Des in a "daze" could no "more land" the final blow than his opponent, even though Sam went a rook up. But they agreed a draw before either flag  fell to tie the match.

Div 2: Ballynafeigh 5 vs Kellys Heroes

Kelly's HeroesBallynafeigh 5
JOHN MCKENNA 1-0 NORMAN RAINEY
N.GREEN 1-0 JAMES SHAW
WILLIAM STOREY 1-0 BILL JACKSON
CATHAL MURPHY 1-0 BOBBY CAMPBELL
ROBERT MCDONALD 1-0 PAUL CHARLES

A second whitewash in a row puts Kelly's Heroes in the ascendancy in Division Two!

The first game to finish was Board 5, where Paul "Ray" Charles didn't "see" Robert's winning move.

On Board 3, when I was told Bill won, I panicked until discovering it was  Jackson  who "jacked" it in, not Storey in the "Battle of the Bills".

Next was Board 1, where "Grandmaster Norm" did not live up to his new nickname, as the game saw "Rainey endowed" with a sense of failure after losing to John.

It was a case of " Murphy's Law" next, as Murphy turned into a "Morphy" over the board - such was his brilliance in beating Bobby, the "bobbies" were almost called in to stop the fight as Bobby made a fatal "booby" which lost the game.

Finally, Neil faced a tough opponent in James and it took a long time to make "shaw" of the whitewash !
