Points are awarded to each player depending on their position in their section: Primary, Lower Secondary (Form1-Form3), Upper Secondary (Form4-Upper 6th). These points are added over the series of the childrens chess tournaments. At the end of the sequence the top 3 from each player are added and the top 4 from each section is invited to Stormont. The top player being awarded the Belfast Scholastic Shield - one of the hardest chess prizes to win in Northern Ireland.

The top 4 players will play in the Stormont Elite tournament on the day of the awards.

The Principals from the Pupils School are invited to the event with the Parents and the pupil.

The Upper Secondary tournament has become very high calibre with quality players a very tough section to play in. Over the 4 tournaments we have had 4 winners: Karina Kruk, Kevin Robbin joint winners in Dec, Kiran Robbin in Jan, Matthew Chapman in Feb and Kevin Robbin for second time in Mar.
