Belfast South Open Chess Tournament 2017-18
The final round of the Tournament and prize-giving took place on 27 March 2018. This flexible tournament was a very flexible one with an unscheduled change of venue and a switch from Monday to Tuesday night in January 2018. Particular thanks to QUB club for hosting the second half of the tournament.
The Summer tournament starts back at the Civil Service Pavillion - May 2nd
Start the summer by playing at the Summer tournament - a flexible tournament over 20 weeks. Back at its original venue with excellent parking and surroundings.
Kelly's Heroes reclaim Strawbridge Cup
(B&D League 2017/18 - postponed matches update) Kelly's Heroes secured the Division 2 title with a 3-2 win over nearest rivals Muldoons 2. Meanwhile, Strand 1's Silver King odds lengthened even further as they could only achieve a 3-2 win against Civil Service.

(B&D League 2017/18 Week 15) Kelly's Heroes narrowly defeated Muldoons 2 to go 4.5 points clear at the top of Division 2.
Strand 2 do clubmates a favour
(B&D League 2017/18 Week 14) It was a good week for the Holywood Road sides, as Strand 3 sewed up the Division 4 title and Strand 2 became the first team this season to avoid defeat against Muldoons 1 - and in doing so, may just have given Strand 1 a way back into contention for the Silver King.

(B&D League 2017/18 Week 11) With the pre-split fixtures now complete, the top three in Division 2 are separated by just four points, while Muldoons 1's inexorable march towards the Silver King continues unabated as they thrash The A Team.
Sadly Alex Beckett has passed away.
An inspirational leader in our local chess scene, Alex Beckett, has died at the age of 86. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. The amount of time and energy he poured into the development of chess in Belfast will forever make him a legend within Ulster Chess. Alex Beckett’s funeral will be held at Knockbreda Church of Ireland Parish Church, Church Road, Belfast BT8 7AN at 11am this Friday 26th January.
