Alan Burns Grand Prix

The Alan Burns Grand Prix series kicks-off on 14th December. Now in its second year, the Lackadaisical Rapidplays offer the chance for an excellent Sunday lunch followed by an afternoon of entertaining chess.

One of NICS founding members, Alan Burns passed away earlier this year. Alan loved his chess and we all appreciated and enjoyed his brilliant company. In memory of Alan we are renaming our Grand Prix in his honour.

The first Lackadaisical is intended as the start of a series of rapidplays organised through the season at irregular intervals. A prize fund will be offered at each event with a portion of entrance fees being held back and offered as prizes at the Grand Prix event finale.

With the benefit of digital clocks (borrowed from the UCU), a time control of 20m + 5s will be set with the object of each game running down to a proper conclusion rather than timing out.

Summary event details are:

  • Date: 14th December
  • Registration: 13:00pm
  • Venue: Maynard Sinclair Pavilion, Belfast

The Pavilion has an excellent Sunday lunch menu
