EVENT: Belfast Rapidplay Championships

DATE: Friday 28 April 2017

START TIME: 6:45pm for registration. Round 1 at 7pm.

END TIME: 10:45pm (Prize-giving at 10:40pm).

REGISTRATION: Please email Brendan Jamison at playchessni@gmail.com by noon on Thursday 27 April 2017. Entries through other people will not be accepted so please make direct contact.

ENTRY FEES:

£5 per player.

SPECTATORS: £5 each. (Must register in advance for keycode access to the building)

AIM: The final event to help raise funds to bring 4 children to Russia to compete in a 12 player chess match of Saint Petersburg v Belfast (18-25 August 2017).

ARBITER: Brendan Jamison

FORMAT: Open tournament with 5 Rounds

TIME CONTROL: 20 minutes per player for all the moves therefore games will last a maximum of 40 minutes.

Small engraved trophies and medals will be awarded across both bands. In cases where a player does not have a rapidplay rating, their standard UCU rating will be used.

TIE BREAKS: For tie-breaks, players will be ranked based on their scores by Median Buchholz, followed if necessary by Buchholz and then Progressive Scores.

RULES: FIDE rules will apply. Touchmove will apply. The second illegal move will result in the immediate loss of the game, however, your opponent must announce when the first illegal move has been played and then once again announce the second illegal move has been played before claiming the win, provided the player still has mating material left on the board, otherwise only a draw can be claimed. If play continues, the opponent may not claim the win retrospectively.

LOCATION: Ground floor conference room, Good Shepherd Centre, 511 Ormeau Rd, Belfast BT7 3GS.

CAR PARKING: Ample free spaces are available in the church car park which players will drive through to get to the building.

KEY CODE: Players must register in advance to get the key code to enter the pedestrian gate after parking their vehicles in the church car park.
