On Thursday 25th May the Irish Chess Union has organised a talk with one of the world's leading female chess players, Judit Polgar.
Results of 5th Belfast South Tournament 2016-17
This flexible open tournament ,which ended on 24 April, attracted a total of 25 players from local clubs. Prizes were awarded on the basis of percentage of players wins, draws and losses with a minimum of 10 required from a maximum of 20 available games. In addition to the overall Winner and Runner-up prizes, there were Grading Band and also Best Game prizes: Winner : Mikhail Pavlov ( Ballynafeigh) 85% Runner-up: John McKenna ( Belfast South) 80% Grading Bands: Under 1300: Roy Stafford ( Shortts) Under 1500: Martin Kelly ( Belfast South) Over 1500: Robert Lavery ( Ballynafeigh) Best Games: Robert Lavery , Norman McFarland, and Mikhail Pavlov The next tournament for the 2017-18 season will continue with the same format but the tournament night will move from Monday to Thursday.
Alan Burns Grand Prix starts on December 11th
The Alan Burns Grand Prix series kicks-off on 11th December. Now in its fourth year, the Lackadaisical Rapidplays offer the chance for an excellent Sunday lunch followed by an afternoon of entertaining chess.
