A postcard - Updated - Greetings from chess world of St. Petersburg, Russia

Two of our brilliant chess players - Brendan Jamison and Mikhail Pavlov enjoying chess in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Hi Mark and Richard,

Greetings from the Russian chess world, Mikhail and I are playing in a 4 day tournament in St. Petersburg. It is so much fun!

There are over 1200 players at this club, it is a state funded chess school and about 90% are under age of 15! The standard is incredible! Our section, Group A, has over 100 players and goes up to 1900 rated players. Mikhail is on 1.5/2 and I'm on 2/2.

We had to pay extra register fees to be  members of FIDE but definitely worth it! Having a ball! Sending smiles from a snowy St. Petersburg!

Kind regards,

Brendan

The final scores for our two intreped explorers were :

Brendan 5 out of 7 a very good score

Mikhail 5.5 out of 7 which won the prize for highest placed non-fide rated player

Lots of fun and brilliant chess.....
