Delancey Chess Challenge Belfast Megafinal 2017
In the surrounds of the beautiful school of Methodist College, Belfast. We werent sure of the numbers of children attending. This is one of the few tournaments we run that looks to get entries in advance. This year the organisers have moved from postal entries to an excellent online registration service.
With the boards out. We registered the players taking their dates of birth and allocating a category based on this. Then the calculation of best how we could split the age groups into sizes that allowed for a 6 round tournament. In the end I decided that we would have one section for the U7/8/9/10/11 and one section for U12/13/14/15/16.
A little latter than planned the tournament begun and the room went from a friendly buzz to a hushed silence as the players focused on their games.
To qualify players had either to win their aged group and become a Supremo or Suprema or gain 3.5 points for those Under12 and over or 4 points for those in the lower sections.
Trophies supplied by the Delancey Chess Challenge as well as certificates and 3 books. The competition to get to the Giga-finals was on.
