Top competitive play at Aprils Childrens Chess 2018
We ran one section, this is almost becoming the regular format. It allows the youngest players to challenge the more experienced players.
My favourite section is the puzzles. They provide an opportunity to talk chess. To hint at a possible move and to see the excitement on the students face when they see the solution. These problems are elegant. So here a few for you to solve - answers at the bottom of the page.

The games go to rating - the ratings kindly provided by Ross Harris. With two exceptions Blake Harris gets an excellent result against Taufik Kamal and Zach Williamson draws against Aaditya Singh - this could be because Zach is new to the competition and we have estimated his rating at 300 which may be a bit low.

Louie plays Adam to an end game, very tight on time Adam plays what could be a drawn game. Then his King gets stuck and Louie starts pushing some pawns and wins on time. Its brilliant to see a complicated endgame in action. Andrew Lee stops Samuel from sharing the same points as Adam Rushe with a draw. Calvin races up with 5.5 points to share second place with Samuel.
