Queen's on Top

The final set of league fixtures for 2008 saw teams at opposite ends of the table meet as Queen's University hosted Bangor.

McGrattan didn't miss his photo opportunity with the stars

QUB were looking to finish 2008 on the high a fantastic year deserved. Crowned Ulster Champions in May and even finishing as the best Irish team at the Euro Club Cup in October, the University outfit aimed to round the year off with a win to secure league leader status entering 2009.

Bangor, meanwhile, entered the Peter Froggatt Centre with the more humble ambition of getting their first bonus points of the season having lost all 3 of their Division 1 matches to date. The seasiders were no doubt a little star struck at the array of chess talent on display in the Queen's team, and the Uni men generously took time out before the game to pause for photos and autographs.

Could Bangor overcome the odds to turn the tables on Queen's? "Steady Eddie" Whiteside, Alan McConnell, James O'Fee, William McGrattan and Kevin Agnew took up the challenge against Chris Cohrs, Steve Scannell, Eamonn Walls, Andrew Higgins and Chris Millar.
