"Big Two" All Square in PFC

The latest installment of the rivalry between the two most successful clubs in Ulster chess was played out under the bright lights of Room 109 in the Peter Froggatt Centre. QUB and Fisherwick locked horns for the first time this season, with memories of recent encounters still vivid in the memory.

The PFC

QUB may have enjoyed a stonking 5-0 win and title triumph over their south Belfast neighbours last season, but Fisherwick were successful in the team's most recent head-to-head. More importantly, this was a brand new season and everything was once again very much to play for.

For the first time this season, Fisherwick fielded their full strength line up. Board 1 Michael Waters returned to bolster the side that had surprisingly lost 4-1 to Lagan but found the road to recovery with a convincing 4.5-0.5 win over Bangor last week. QUB continued with the line up that turned over Bangor 4-1 during round 1.
