Co. Down Schools' Championship
At last, the World Championship semi-finals have begun in London this week between Gary Kasparov (USSR) and defector Victor Korchnoi (Switzerland) and between Vassily Smyslov (USSR) and Zoltan Ribli (Hungary). Appropriately, today's game feature another Gary playing Korchnoi in an interesting rook end-game in a 1981 simultaneous display. Guess who the "victor" is!

Last weekend saw the climax of the Co. Down Schools' Championships at the Teachers Centre, Downpatrick, sponsored by the Youth Dept. of the S.E. Education and Library Board. It saw "Warren piece" together five points to share the senior boys' title, while the Tweedies found it easy as pie" to win the Junior and Minor Boys'.
