Rookie on a Wednesday

#34 "Letters" Irish News 9th December 1983, anonymously penned by Dr. Ross Savage

For the past few months I have had the pleasure of reading "Rookie" every Wednesday in the "Irish News". Recently, however, the "Rookie" column has been delayed, appearing on a Thursday, or, as is case last week, failed to appear altogether. As one of the unvoiced few who enjoy such articles - but rarely comment, I was content to remain silent when "Rookie" was a regular feature but, now that it appears that is not so, I feel that I should voice my opinion on the matter.

Firstly I would like to thank everyone responsible for recognising that minority interests (as chess is) should be catered for. Secondly I would like to congratulate "Rookie" on making his column both informative and enjoyable. Thirdly I hope that the non-appearance of "Rookie" is an isolated incident and finally I would like to thank you in the anticipation of "checking out" your chess column "Rookie"every week.

A Chess Enthusiast

Editor's note: From now on Rookie will appear every Wednesday
