Stormont Childrens Award Ceremony 2008

The top 9 children from the Childrens chess tournaments were at Stormont as the guests of MLA Brian Wilson (Green Party) for an Elite tournament and prize award ceremony.

Brian Wilson met children, parents, principals and volunteers and he praised the childrens skill and enthusiasm. The timetable was full. We had a tour of Stormont followed by a tournament - The Stormont Elite where the top 4 Primary Children played each other and the top 4 Form3 and below played each other. Whilst this was happening MLA Brian Wilson took some chess lessons from Belfasts Exceptional Youngster Raghav Gupta who aged 7 had won his age group in the UK Chess Challenge event in Manchester last year.

 

Green Party Assembly Member Brian Wilson said: “This is an opportunity for the children to have fun and show off their chess skills in the historic surroundings of Stormont, it will be a celebration of young minds.”

Raghav Gupta was awarded the Belfast Scholastic Shield: Exceptional Young Player 2008
