Carton boxed-in Kelly

#4 Irish Press 23rd May 1983

In the first ever Dundalk Open tournament held in Dundalk Club, Roden Place, Patrick Lambe (Fisherwick) was the only prizewinner from the Northern contingent with a splendid three out of five points.

This put him top of his grading section, young Niall Carton (Newcastle) scored 3½ points to finish just behind the winner R O'Donovan (four points) and the joint seconds, E O'Reilly and P Carton (snr) all from Dublin. Two of the local organisers Sean McDonagh and P O'Hanlon won grading prizes.

Meanwhile, study this complicated game involving Northerners in Dundalk, in which Patrick Carton (Newcastle) boxed-in Martin Kelly (Fisherwick).
