Irish Club Championship

The Championship was held on the 24th and 25th April. It was hosted by Phibsboro Chess Club, and took place at the Dublin International Youth Hostel (Oige), 61 Mountjoy Street, Dublin.

Fisherwick Chess Club was the Ulster representative in the four-cornered contest for the Irish club title. After narrow losses to Rathmines/Crumlin and Phibsboro in the first two rounds, a heavy defeat against Dublin in the final round consigned Fisherwick to fourth place.

At the 2003 Irish Chess Union AGM a motion was passed that the National Club Championship should be held in the same year as the European Club Cup (ECC). To bring this into line, this event qualified the top two placed teams to play in Turkey later this year.

Final placings

1st Rathmines/Crumlin 12.0
2nd Phibsboro         10.5
3rd Dublin             8.0
4th Fisherwick         5.5
