Fisherwick Tournaments

This season Fisherwick Chess Club organised two Swiss tournaments, the first before Christmas and the second after it.

The "Autumn Tournament" was played over 6 Rounds on Mondays starting 17 October and ending 21 November 2005 and was won decisively by Mark Newman of Bangor Chess Club.

The "Winter Tournament" was originally slated to start on the second Monday of January 2006 but in the end it ventured into Spring. This time there were only five rounds but again played on Mondays starting 27 February and ending 27 March 2006. The young Methodist College player Ananda Srinivasan finished in the top spot.

So now the scene was set for a play-off match between Ananda Srinvasan and Mark Newman to decide the 2005-2006 Fisherwick Championship. This was played Monday 3 April and after two Rapidplay games finished 1-1, Newman won a blitz play-off to take the title.

On the same evening Kevin O'Neill won the Crazy Quickplay Final. In this time handicap event, Kevin took advantage of his extra time to come ahead of higher rated opponents.
