The Summer Tournament Awards and Fun QuickplayTournament
We have had a quick play tounament at the end of the Summer tournament for as long as I can remember - Alex Beckett used to run them. Then at David Seabys suggestion we made it more fun and challenging by introducing a time handicap. Based on a matrix given to us by David - the difference between the players ratings determined the time difference between the players. All games lasting 20mins but some would be split 18mins to 2 mins while others with closer rated opponents would be 10 mins to 10 mins. With knowing players in advance I was able to give each player a list of possible opponents and their time differences. This made it much easier.
With the players registered and ready to play - the games began. The room fell to a hush and the gentle movement of pieces. Would the time differences make a more equitable playing field?
