Fisherwick Sweep Up

Fisherwick make a clean sweep winning both KO Cup and Plate in this season's Team Tournament.

Today, Sunday 24th October, Belfast Boat Club opened their doors to the top teams from last years league for a play-off to see which club could field the strongest team. At stake were the KO Cup for senior teams and the KO Plate for junior teams.

Format of the tournament was an All-play-All league with the most points claiming the prizes. Starting in the morning this meant each team would play 3 full matches starting at 10:00am, 2:00pm and 6:00pm

An excellent day of chess with some wonderful games.

Senior

Senior clubs were represented by league winners Fisherwick, previous cup winners Clifton House, North Belfast and wild-card team Bangor. Fisherwick evidently came prepared with their players organised in a rota to cover the whole day while the other teams struggled to field a full five-man team for every match.
1. Fisherwick 3.5 + 3 + 4 = 10.5
2. Clifton House 2.5 + 2 + 3.5 = 8.0
3. North Belfast 2.5 + 4 + 1 = 7.5
4. Bangor 1.5 + 1 + 1.5 = 4.0

Junior

Junior clubs were represented by last years league run-away winners Fisherwick, Fortwilliam, Bangor and wild-card visitors from Derry. Great to see our friends in Derry joining us. Fortwilliam's sole representative, John Cahoon, decided to forgoe the embarrasment of a one-man team leaving the other 3 to play off.

1. Fisherwick Junior 4 + 4 = 8
2. Derry City 3 + 1 = 4
3. Bangor Junior 2 + 1 = 3
