Virtual Williamson 2021 Day 1 report: Saturday 30th January 2021.
I am always a little nervious when a competition is about to start. But we had a brilliant list of players. Including youngsters Ethan Cole, Diana Bueckert and Kamal Taufik. Also a new top player Tahmankar Mandar in the senior section. It was going to be a good competition with plenty of excellent chess.
I wish to than Brendan Jamison for assisting in the running of this tournament.
I have a Zoom meeting open 30 minutes before each round incase any players would like to ask questions. It was good to see players and chat.

Round 1 of the intermediates and a couple of upsets. Kamal Taufik gets a good draw against Diana Bueckert, Calum Glendinng wins against Declan McKee and the youngest player Ethan Cole gets an excellent resullt against Stephen Cullen.

Round 3 sees Andrew Todd and Adrian Dornford-Smith take the lead. Both as yet unbeaten. Diana Bueckert also continues unbeaten with two draws and now a win against Ethan Cole. Ethan is up against tough opposition.

Round 1 of the Seniors saw Chris Kelly get a good win over Alex Goss. I also had a brilliant, enjoyable game against Tahmankar Mandar who in the end outplayed me.

Round 3 saw the head to head of Danny Roberts and new comer Tahmankar Mandar and an exciting game that went the full 3hours ending in a Draw. Good spectator chess. Oisin Cuilleanain is in a position to challenge the leaders and in fact shares the lead with Danny and Tahmankar. It should be an exciting Sunday. James O'Fee gets a good result against Modestas Razbadauskas.
