The Ulster Masters 2019 at Bangor.

For the first time in its history, the Ulster Masters was played outside Belfast this year. The major chess event was run over the weekend of 23rd and 24th November at Saint Columbanus’ College in Bangor.

Ulster Chess Union President Ross Harris said “Given the surge in local chess in the North Down area over the past two years, it was the right time to bring a major weekend chess tournament to Bangor. With local clubs in Groomsport, Bangor Grammar and Bangor Academy, it is hoped the event will attract many local school children, students and veteran players.”

The event was held in the excellent venue of Saint Columbanus’ College. Five rounds 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday meant plenty of chess and time to travel home Sunday evening at  a decent time.

The competition was expertly run by Brendan Jamison ably assisted by Arbiter Adrian Dornford-Smith who also setup the wonderful live boards. Full games from these can be found on the Ulster Union webpage : http://www.ulsterchess.net/2019-11-24/
