FIDE-RATED Ulster Championships 2023

3 day bank holiday weekend

Round times each day

10:30am to 2:30pm   

3:30pm to 7:30pm

3 sections, all 3 will be FIDE-rated:

Senior (1700+)

Intermediate (1400-1700)

Junior (0-1400)


FIDE National Arbiters: Adrian Dornford-Smith, Adam Rushe and Eddie Hanzharov

Deadline to enter: 12 noon on Saturday 19th August. Entries after this date = £30 + annual UCU fees

Early entry fee = £25 + annual UCU fee

Early entry rate for under 18s and full-time students = £20 + annual UCU fees

You must be a paid-up member of the UCU for the 2023/2024 season to compete in this event.

If you are visiting from overseas, you are welcome to play without UCU membership but you will not be eligible to win any of the titles or perpetual cups because you have not lived in Ulster for the preceding 12 months. You can still win the money prizes.

Non-Ulster players with ICU membership for 2023/2024 do not need to join the UCU to compete and you will still be eligible for all money prizes but not the titles/perpetual cups which can only be awarded to players living in Ulster.

Pairing Software - Swiss Master 5.7

Tie-breaks - Buchholz, Progressive Scores, TPR Mixed

FIDE rules will apply.

Default time = 30 minutes.

Players arriving late 3 times after their clock has started may be disqualified.

Phones must be switched off. If a player’s phone makes any type of noise, the game is immediately lost by the offending player, including the loss of rating points.

The competition will be rated by FIDE and the UCU.
