Belfast South Chess Club 2022-23

Belfast South Chess Club has been in existence since 2012. On November 1 2022 the Club moved to Morton Community Centre, Lorne St and meets on Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm. Death of Professor James Fairley

Former Belfast South player James Fairley died on January 2 2023. His brother David has also informed me that the funeral service will take place on Friday January 13 in St Donard's Church of Ireland, Bloomfield Rd at 10.45am.

James Fairley was a regular player at the annual Ulster Chess Union tournament organised by Belfast South Club from 2012 -2020. His last appearance was in February 2019 and his absence was greatly missed. As a player he frequently ended up on the losing side but he was noted for his indomitable spirit.. An academic in his working life he held the title of Professor of Zoology at Galway University.

 

 

 

Morton Chess Club 2025

Morton Chess Club, based in Morton Community Centre, Lorne St (off Lisburn Road) is now operational on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm. It is open to all chess players regardless of playing strength.
