The Virtual Ulster Masters was played on November 21st/22nd 2020

With two sections and some 23 players - the Masters was our first slow weekend Virtual Chess Tournament. With Senior Championship won by Adam Collins and Intermediate won by Andrew Todd.

Our first Virtual Weekender and I was nervious. Never having run a weekender on Lichess.org.

Luckily we had enough players to split the group into two sections a Senior and an Intermediate.

The first round got under way at 10:00am on the Saturday. and all players turned up and eventually challenged their opponents and the first round was in full flow.

There was an odd number of players in the Senior section so I included myself in the draw to ensure everyone got a game. I was playing Danny Roberts who kindly agreed to start a little late to allow me to ensure the other games had started without a probem. I setup a Zoom meeting previous to the start of each round, to allow for players with questions to check with me. This was used a couple of times and it was good to see players face to face and answer their queries.

Unfortunately David Blairs lichess account was flagged as having used assistance - and he was asked to withdraw on round4 and all results in the previous rounds were reversed.

The first round saw a good result from William Hackett who beat Alex Goss.

Moving onto Sunday we are over half-way through the tournament with only 2 rounds remaining. The standings for each tournament were sent out.

In the Seniors Virtual Masters Championships three leaders on 3 points. Danny, Adam and Oisin. They have a head start of the next players on 1.5, The battle begins on the top tables.

The final round sees Adam and Oisin agreeing a draw setting Adam into first place and winner of the Championship. Alex beats Danny and shares second place with 3.5 points with Oisin, the tie breaker will decide on the actual order. Modestas gets a good win against William Hackett and gains joint 4th place and the rating prize.

Andrew secures the Championship with a win against Conal. Conal gets second place. Whilst Samuel wins against Matthew and gets 2nd place.

The Closing Ceremony was held on Zoom.
