ANNUAL WINTER CHESS TOURNAMENT 2019-20

The Annual Winter Chess tournament starts on Monday 4th November at Queens University - Lanyon Building. Organised by Belfast South.

 

ANNUAL WINTER CHESS TOURNAMENT 2019-20

This is a flexible open tournament organized by Belfast South Chess Club. Players may play
up to a maximum of 16 games but a minimum of 10 games ( at least 2 within the last 3 weeks
of the tournament ) must be played to be eligible for prizes. To maximize the number of
players receiving prizes, in the event of a player being eligible for a grading as well as a
1st/Runner- up prize, the grading prize will be awarded to the next best player. There will be 2
additional prizes of £10 for the best game played before and after the Xmas break and a prize
of £20 for the best-placed student.

For grading purposes the latest UCU ratings list will be used. Players will be assigned a
grading band according to the tournament entry list. As far as practicable but not exclusively,
pairings will be made within grading bands.
There will be a first prize of £60 and £40 to the runner up based on players overall % score.
There will also a grading prize of £20 for each band to the player with the best percentage
score. 2 Best Game prizes of £10 will also be awarded.

Venue: Lanyon Building
Queens University Belfast
Go through the main doors and on reaching the quadrangle, turn left and then right along the
side of the building. You will then notice a red sign on the wall and also double doors with
“Main Entrance Lanyon North” . Go through the doors and turn left to access the tournament
room.

Time: 7.45 pm – 10.45pm ( 1 hr 30 mins per clock)
Entry Fee: £15 (£10 QUB Club members).

Players are advised that in the event of a dispute games will be adjourned for adjudication by
a committee of the players convened by the Controller.
