We are using the Maxwell Hall at the front of our building in Groomsport. This room has max capacity for 20 players so we advise very early registration to avoid missing a place.

This tournament will be a mix of newcomers/beginners and players rated in the 1400-1600s range. This event is ideal for newcomers who wish to dip their toe in tournament chess. It’s also a great event to practice for Sunday 21st Sept UK Open Blitz qualifier which is 15 rounds of 3+2. See details on UCU site for more info on that event which costs £27 and open to players of all ratings.

No food allowed in playing hall. Drinks permitted.

FIDE rules apply.

ENTRY FEE:

£10 if paid in advance.

£15 for anyone paying cash on the night (if there is still space available. Only players who pay in advance will be guaranteed a place).

Free entry for additional players from the same family (brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, grandparents).

Free entry for paid-up members of Bangor Chess Club in the 2025/2026 season (just remember your ICU membership also needs paid for 2025/2026 season as all our FIDE rated events are run through ICU).

One open section. Swiss Pairings.

Trophies will be awarded to Champion, 2nd, 3rd, Intermediate Champion and Junior Champion.

Tie breaks order: Buchholz, Progressive, TPR Mixed.
